I post this on Facebook every year on Memorial Day:
“While you’re driving back to work after enjoying your three-day Memorial Day weekend, think about this: In what other job can yourself or a portion of your employees be killed doing their job and it’s considered “acceptable losses”? In what other job, no matter how well you do it, can you be fired if you can’t do enough sit-ups, push-ups, run fast enough or weigh too much? In what other job can you be punished for rolling your eyes at your supervisor? In what other job would you have to dig a hole, even if it’s raining, in order to have a safe place to sleep? Only one that I know of. Barely one percent of the adult population serves in America’s Military, but 100% of the country gets off on Memorial Day. I’ve lost count of the number of Memorial Days and 4th of July’s I’ve had to work providing troops and vehicles for parades so the other 99% can enjoy their holiday.”
